JOHOR, 12 JULY 2018 – Regency Specialist Hospital (Regency) held it’s first educational symposium to share and exchange knowledge on the different approaches and technologies for cancer management.

Paying special focus on optimal multi disciplinary cancer care and recent advances in treatment, talks were dedicated towards minimally invasive surgical approaches and latest radiation cancer treatment options such as Proton Beam Therapy. Held at Renaissance Hotel, Johor, this symposium is a collaborative effort with Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan.

The 2-day seminar held between Regency and it’s sister hospital, Mahkota Medical Centre, Melaka; is aimed to benefit not only oncologists and allied healthcare professionals in the cancer care continuum, it further marks the start of the hospitals’ community pledge towards improving the public’s health, not just that of their patients – a vision from their recent brand relaunch.

Speaking at the symposium, Dato Dr Ghazali bin Ismail, Head of Department and National Chairman of Gynae-Oncology Services of Hospital Sultan Ismail, spoke about the rise in cancer incidences in Johor and the importance of early screening.

In the same regard, Dato Dr Ghazali urged doctors to increase their awareness on cancer detection and complimented Regency for organising educational platforms of this nature.

Also present, Dr Mohan Kandasamy, Chairman of The Malaysian Medical Association who commented on the importance for doctors to attend educational events in order to continuously update and upgrade themselves to keep abreast of trends and knowledge.

Day one of the symposium kicked off by Regency addressing ‘The Advances in Surgical and Radiation Approach to Oncology’ chaired by Dr. Lo Woei Chung, Oncology and Haematology Specialist.

Drawing the forum to a close on day two, Mahkota’s topic in turn was ‘Building Bridges in Cancer Management’ chaired by Dr. Chong Kwang Jeat, Head of Oncology Services. The symposium saw a collaboration of panel of speakers from Chang Gung Proton and Radiation Therapy Centre, Taiwan.

Since inception in 2009, Regency recently renewed its commitment with a refreshed identity together with it’s sister hospital following a rebranding exercise, to be one body under the HMI Group.
