Regency Specialist Hospital, Happy Riders Connect, and Ranhill Saj Team Formed Collaboration Effort to Clean Up the Community Park and Reading Kiosk to Serve the B40 Group's Underprivileged Children

Regency Specialist Hospital (RSH) has collaborated with Happy Riders Connect and Ranhill SAJ team in a joint effort to clean up the community park and reading kiosk at Kampung Sulaiman Menteri, Johor Bahru on 18th December in conjunction with the RSH’s 12th-anniversary celebration.

The book kiosk was developed by Happy Riders Connect and staff from Sultan Ismail Library. The mission is to bring books to the playground for the underprivileged children (Group B40) and low-cost housing in the surrounding area. The collaboration effort believes this initiative will be a powerful way to guide the underprivileged children to read independently, improve their reading abilities and will open more doors and opportunities for them to become future leaders. The library kiosk also enables children to borrow the books to read freely in their free time, to embrace reading habits, achieve better literacy and divert their attention from engaging in dangerous bike racing activities to a safer and meaningful reading hobby.

RSH, Happy Riders Connect and Ranhill SAJ team have thoroughly cleaned the reading and playground compound as this reading kiosk was closed down for almost 2 years due to the pandemic in order to safeguard the safety of the public. COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) compliance awareness education was briefed by the Department of Infection Control from RSH. Hygiene Kit that includes washable face masks, disposable face masks, mini hand sanitizer and hand sanitizing wipes were distributed by RSH to the B40 families living nearby as festive presents.

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) also assisted in sending COVID-19 SOP monitoring officers to the venue to ensure good social distancing practices which comply with COVID-19 SOP were enforced. All of these efforts are in line with the “Johor Bersama” initiative driven by RSH, which is to work together to support each other and enable the community around RSH to be lifted, to rise again and get support when the economy is slowly recuperating again according to Ms. Serena Yong, CEO of RSH.

The location of this reading kiosk is located @Taman Permainan Jalan Bunga Melati, Kampung Dato Sulaiman Menteri, 81100, Johor Bahru. The library kiosk is opened to the public on every Saturday, 4:30pm - 6:30pm. The reading program is conducted every 2nd week of Saturday, 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Apart from lending books to the B40 group’s children, storytelling, reading bubby and educational games that avoid physical interactions are also organized from time to time. Rest assured that all activities are monitored and adapted to follow the latest SOP set by the Malaysian government’s guidelines related to COVID-19.

The public can participate by becoming book donors or joining as education volunteers to support this CSR program.
